Events at the Homok Kindergarten of the P. Katalin Frangepán Grammar School
January – February
Bird house
With the onset of winter, some birds migrate south, while overwinterers have difficulty finding food and water. So our kindergarten teachers talked to the children about the importance of feeding the birds that winter here. And as part of the kindergarten garden programme, the bird feeder was completed. The children were happy to get to work. Thanks to the hard work of many little hands, the work was completed quickly. The children were delighted to place the bird feeder on a tree in the kindergarten garden and fill it with seeds.
22 January – Day of Hungarian Culture
An important part of our educational programme is the preservation of Hungarian cultural values. On 22 January we celebrated the Day of Hungarian Culture in our kindergarten. During the day we talked about the Hungarian language, culture, where we come from, who our ancestors were. We talked about the birth of the Hungarian National Anthem, listened to it, and reminded our students to stand up and listen to it quietly. At the end of the day, the children made window and door ornaments in national colours and a windmill.
22 January is the Day of Unity of Ukraine
On 22 January, Ukrainians celebrate the Day of Unity of Ukraine. On this day, the teachers continued to introduce the children to the national symbols of Ukraine (State Emblem, flag, anthem); the symbolic meaning of the colours of the flag and the Ukrainian wreath. During the integrated lesson, the children constructed a flag from Lego bricks and made an application in the national colours.
Bear
2 February is the feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the best known folk tradition. The belief is to predict the weather by watching the bear. To celebrate this folk tradition, the children made bear figurines. In the course of the activity, they learned about the traditions and beliefs associated with this day.
Carnival
Costumes, dancing, fun, merriment and doughnuts! Without these, a carnival is not really a carnival. These are the basic things that make a carnival fun and a favourite of all children.
This year, in feverish preparation, we held our carnival on 13 February at the Homok Kindergarten of the P. Katalin Frangepán Grammar School. In the days leading up to it, the children made various masks and other decorations.
Our kindergartners dressed up in beautiful costumes. After the costume parade, everyone had a chance to eat a carnival doughnut, which the children were also very enthusiastic about making. Then the carnival party began.
One of the highlights of the carnival was the Csipkés folk band, who treated the audience to a táncház. The children were also able to play folk games taught by Boglárka Botos.
It was fun, it was beautiful, but now we are looking forward to spring.
